Prayer
That God will help us to understand, to learn how to share our faith and memorize
That He will prepare us for witnessing
That the Holy Spirit will prepare the hearts of those to whom we witness
That the Holy Spirit will direct us to whomever He would have us visit
Review
Write by memory 1 John 5:11-*13; Romans 6:23
Why memorize? Psalm 119:11
Studies on how to memorize as reported in Reader's Digest have indicated studying in a prone position. Fix a scripture in your mind before retiring and think on it as you fall asleep. Review it whenever you awaken. Only work on 1 verse at a time. Review it at each opportunity.
Memorizing each scripture in this manual will allow the Holy Spirit to bring them to mind when you need them.
Lecture: Do's and Don'ts
I. Do's
Do be a friend
Do quote just the portion of the scripture that relates to the discussion
Do stress the benefits of Christianity
Do use Scripture: it is an intellectual approach & more lasting than an emotional one
Do be careful of your grooming and manner of dress: Bad breath or body odor can turn off a prospect
Do keep a pleasant expression and smile: Esp when asking the 2 questions (I get permission from prospect before asking)
Do be a good listener
Do pray before leaving the church or your home (You will frighten the prospect if they see you praying in the car)
Decide who is the leader before leaving the church: The leader greets the prospect and introduces the team; allow the prospect at least 5 minutes to talk about themself before presenting the gospel; determine the prospect's spiritual condition before starting the gospel; trainees and other team members pray inconspicuously as the gospel is presented
Keep your exit pleasant whether they accept or reject the gospel.
II. Don'ts
Don't carry a large Bible; it will frighten the prospect
Don't give the reference for each verse you quote; it can interrupt the train of thought
Don't give a negative view of Christianity; you will certainly discourage the prospect
Don't criticize your prospect, nor their pastor or church if they have one
Don't high pressure them
Don't be argumentative
Don't present the gospel until you have their interest
Don't just tell -- communicate by asking, listening, telling and understanding
It is advisable to have each team consist of 2 or 3 members at the most. Evaluate seating arrangements and seat yourself so that the leader is in the best position to witness to the prospect(s).
