Lecture: The Introduction

I. Earn the privilege of asking the personal questions #1 and #2
A. The mood needs to be light and relaxed. Humor is helpful.
B. Show a genuine interest in them. Their hobbies, chilred, work, home, etc.
C. Use sincere compliments to bring about a smooth transition into Gospel
II. Jesus gave this example: Jesus with the woman at the well John 4:4-13
A. Get their attention..."give me to drink"
B. Get their interest..."If you knew...you would ask me and I would give you living water" "Where is this living water?"
C. Create a desire..."Whosoever drinks of this water I give will never thirst" "Give me that water"
D. Bring the conviction..."Go call your husband" He knew she was not married to the man she lived with
E. Close...He used her digression to get back on the subject
III. The Introduction ..."We are a good news team"
A. Their secular life -- Look around for an indication of their interests; get them to talk about themselves; Listen for 5 minutes; Pay sincere compliment
B. Their church -- Don't crticize them, their church, or their minister
C. Testimony -- Probably person, maybe church; ask about their visit to our church; assure them you are not there to build your church but to share Christ
D. Question#1: "If you were to die tonight, would you go to heaven?" They will usually say,
"no one can know." You can know for certain! The Bible says here "these things have I written you that ye may know." 1 John 5:13
E. Question#2: "In your opinion what does God require of us to go to heaven?" They will usually list good works such as:
going to church, following the golden rule, etc. After their answer say, "Let me see if I understand you" and repeat their answer. This is very important to avoid problems that
may arise later in the presentaiton. If they can't answer, suggest good works, good morals, etc. as what most people believe. If they still don't know, quote Romans 6:23

Memorize "The Introduction", esp. the 2 questions and John 1:1,14
Mock Presentation
of "The Introduction" in pairs -- trainees using the outline and Bible
Make sure that all in the class have had the opportunity to practice this.
